It’s always exciting to start a new season of Biggest Loser. Last night we met 10 couples and watched the first challenge of the season and 1 couple eliminated, before they even got to hit the new gym. Apparently, out with 24 Hour Fitness sponsorship and in with Planet Fitness. New contestants, (including Santa Clause–of course they put him in a red shirt!!!) new equipment, somewhat new Dolvett and the old-timer, Bob Harper. One thing BL does well, is find good looking people to work the show. Alison, Dolvett and Bob all are so easy to look at! Just saying.
This season is dubbed “no excuses,” and in the first episode we saw a pretty bold twist. While the contestants came on as couples, they were told early on that they would not be competing as couples. I loved this twist, as the couple thing never works for long, anyway. It’s great to have support, but when it comes to something like working out and losing weight, I think every man (or woman) for themselves, is much more realistic. That’s not why I think they divided them, though. I honestly think that most of the contestants would want to work with Bob and so by dividing them and making them decide which team member would work with which trainer, it made it much easier.
It was refreshing to see “normally” overweight people, instead of contestants in the 400 and 500 hundred pound range. On the other hand, I was uncomfortable with how hard they were worked at their first workout and how many of them were gagging, passing out, throwing up, etc. I understand this is an extreme show. I just will NEVER be good with making people sick. NOT EVER! I loved the way they edited Bob’s team to look like they were unstoppable animals and Dolvett’s team, the sad, pathetic, Bad News Bears.
But in the end, it would be Dolvett’s red team that would emerge winners. I love you, Bob, but you really needed this! Ben, a father of like 9 kids and one on the way, asked to go home. He missed his family. He feels he learned enough in a week, to go home and make it happen. I totally get him missing his family but really? In a week? At least he left with a Planet Fitness membership. I sure hope there is one very close to his house. Of course we got to see him at home playing with his kids and down quite a few pant sizes.
And now there are 17. I kind of like the young girl who came on with her grandma. Welcome back BL. Thanks for not making us wait too long between seasons.
As much of our country is in the thick of a cold front, I want to remind you to drink a lot of water!! Though it’s harder in the cold weather, it is even more important than in the warm weather. Water keeps our bronchial tubes moist when it’s cold and dry and this is very important to our breathing….and really, breathing is everything!
