Many years ago I heard about eating gin soaked raisins. It’s at least a 30 year old (but probably much more than that) urban myth that eating GOLDEN raisins, soaked in a good gin that is made with real juniper berries, will help with arthritis pain. Just a few weeks ago, my friend Rita asked if I heard about this and after doing my research, I was inspired to give it a try. While I don’t struggle much with arthritis pain, by the time we hit a certain age, we all have some….and certainly I have and continue to beat this old body up daily!
While it’s too early to report if we feel any differently, Mitch and I started eating 9 of them with dinner each night. They are kind of fun and remind me a little of eating the Maraschino cherries out of a forbidden drink, as a kid. We like them on a tooth pick.
You must use GOLDEN raisins and a decent gin. Google suggests Bombay London Dry but also says that inexpensive Gordon’s London Dry Gin DOES use the real juniper berry, so we used that. All you need to do is place the GOLDEN raisins in a jar or bowl and add enough gin to fully cover the raisins. I also added some honey and cinnamon. Close and let sit for about 2 weeks. I stir it around each day. We couldn’t hold out and started eating them after a week.
The 105 year old woman who survived Covid in her nursing home in New Jersey thinks eating her gin soaked raisins may have, in part, saved her. Who am I to argue with that?
You can find a lot of articles about this, if you are interested in checking it out. If you jump on board, please let me know, in a few weeks, if you feel any benefit!

I have been eating my “drunken raisins” since March 7. I actually love the taste of them and I do believe I feel better. I love all kinds of homeopathic remedies. This one is a keeper.

Where does that leave those of us who like vodka?

Well my sister, you know I have an answer for that. Vodka in the glass, gin in the raisins…or raisins in the gin. They seem to mix without a problem. We have done the research for you lol!
