With all the crazy and often extreme things people do to look younger/better, why not hit the sack a little earlier and get the much needed sleep that makes us look, feel and BE more youthful? A Swedish study published in the British Medical Journal, found that people who were sleep deprived were viewed as less healthy and less attractive than those who didn’t skimp on their zzzzzzzs. Science has also proven that less sleep goes hand in hand with a more sluggish metabolism, storing belly fat as a result.
My takeaway from these studies is this…we all need to get back to the basics we learned when we were in kindergarten. Eat right, go outside to play, be nice to one another and get a good night’s sleep! Life can be so simple if we just work at UN-complicating things instead of the opposite.
Ironically, last night was possibly the first night since I got pregnant almost 28 years ago, that I actually slept straight through. Understandably, especially as we age, sleep gets more challenging. Pull out all the stops to make sure that your sleeping environment is as peaceful and comfortable as it can be. Make sure you are getting in your exercise and not ingesting too much caffeine (especially for those that are sensitive to it, and especially too late in the day). Try some meditation…warm baths…whatever it is that lets your body and more importantly your mind relax. You will not only look healthier and more attractive–you WILL be just that.
Great dinner at the Falafel Bistro with Derek last night. We each had a different soup, him the corn, Mitch the lentil and me, the pumpkin. As always, they were all delicious. Congratulation, Derek, on your one year anniversary at your job. They are so lucky to have you on their team. Life has a funny way of working out!
Have a great Friday everyone. Finish up your shopping so you can enjoy the awesomeness of the season…and remember to sleep in heavenly peace.
