This morning is not at all about fitness, but maybe can offer a bit of peace. Mitch and I traveled to Vegas for Halloween and it was really not bad at all, flying during Covid, at least for us!
We flew Jet Blue and the middle seat was blocked out. Not only did that make it safer, but also much more comfy. We opted to wear shields over our masks, on the way out, as we wanted to do everything possible to limit the chance of bringing the virus into our children’s home. We got our boarding passes online and got to the airport early enough to find parking and then sat in the car until it was close to boarding. We never had to sit at the airport and boarding had people 6 feet apart. We sat towards the front of the plane, so most people were already seated when we got on. We did not check any bags.
While I am never a germaphobe, I have TOTAL respect for this virus. Upon getting to our row, I wiped EVERYTHING with disinfectant. We popped Listerine strips periodically as they may have some killing power. No alcohol was allowed which was a little annoying but helped to make sure no one would get drunk and it was a very peaceful flight. I counted seats. The plane held about 150 and there were only about 65 people on board.
When we got to the kids we undressed and put all our traveling clothes in the wash. We showered and washed our hair and felt ready to be with our family, with no limitations. It was a risk and we appreciate them trusting us enough to let us visit. We celebrated Halloween and watched the election results come in together until we flew back home on Wednesday. We really had some amazing quality time bonding with our Summer girl, who we hadn’t seen in 8 very long months. Thankfully, via the magic of technology, she was excited to see and play with us.
Monsters, Inc.Las Vegas–with pups!
Clearwater kids, always amazing!
The flight home we opted out of shields. McCarren airport in Las Vegas was a little more crowded at security than I would have liked but everyone had their masks on and I believe that is a critical part of keeping safe. The flight was great!
It’s been 11 days since the first flight and 5 since the second. We feel happy, healthy and terrific though it did take a few days to recoup from running around with a 15 month old all day. NOT COMPLAINING!!!
We are back to our Covid norm now. Laying low, keeping our circle very small and weighing risk vs. reward with every decision. The reward of our trip was beyond. Plus we got to come home and dance in the streets!
I didn’t share this to talk about US. I shared this experience because life is short and Covid can be very frightening. It is my hope that our experience might help you know what’s going on out there in the world.
Be smart. Be safe. Live Life!
