Breathing…it’s so unique in that we do it naturally, but we can also change it up to benefit our health and calm our nervous system. These days, we all need our nervous system calmed!!
Here is a super simple breathing exercise that can be done anywhere. It can provide a pretty instant calm, so it’s a good tool to have in the de-stress tool box.
Sit comfortably and place one hand on your heart and one on your belly. Inhale through your nose and bring the air down into your belly, so it swells like a balloon. Think Buddah belly. Feel the belly push the hand away as it swells. Then gently encourage your belly to empty back towards your spine, with a very gentle nudge of that hand, as you exhale fully (I like to exhale through my mouth but whatever comes naturally). You wont feel the hand on your heart move much at all. I just like to think of it a reminder that love is our natural state. Take a few slow, full breaths like this and be grateful for each one.
Breathing is the very first thing we do upon entering this world, and it is also the last. Make all the ones in between, matter!
