Nothing says summer better than fruits, especially berries. It is amazing how many people shy away from fruits that they believe to be fattening. Fruits will NOT make you fat, people! I just never, ever met anyone that has gotten fat from too much watermelon, or too many apples. Let’s take a serious look at our daily food intake (if it’s hard to be honest with yourself at the end of the day, keep a food journal because they really work) before we start accusing the wrong guys. Right now cherries are at their peak and have come way down in price ($2.49 a pound at Publix last week). A one-cup serving of cherries provides 150 milligrams of potassium, which supports healthy blood pressure, 2 grams of dietary fiber, 16% of our daily value of vitamin C and a healthy dose of phytosterols which lower bad (LDL) cholesterol. With only 87 calories in the full cup of cherries, they are actually a perfect low in calories, but super high in flavor, all natural snack. They are definitely on my shopping list during these weeks of abundance! Hope they are on yours, too.
Like Lady Gaga often says, “Cherry Cherry, Boom, Boom.”
