Here it is June 14th. It was 34 years ago, tonight, that I walked into a party at an old college friend’s (and dorm mate, apartment mate and house mate) parents home and reunited with old college friends, including Mitch. He came home with me that night, and the rest, as they say, is history.
And now, 34 years after that chance encounter, 2 grown-up boys later, we are 6 weeks away from Kyle and Nicole’s wedding. Wow. So much to celebrate on this Father’s Day weekend.
And though there will be celebrating, we must first do what we have to do, so we can then do what we want to do….today’s ab challenge is 65 push ups (hold those abs in as you exhale UP) 85 crunches (watch your neck!) 42 leg raises (think abs in as you lower those legs and don’t let your back arch up! If it does, you are bringing those legs down too far…Finally, flip on over and hold plank for 55 seconds. I was happy to learn that I count too slowly 🙂 If you are joining me at the gym for class this morning, this will all get spaced out in our workout which will be, after our warm-up 3 minutes or so of cardio/2 minutes of weights/1 minute of abs, repeat…Please remember to stretch your abs each day after completing the challenge. You can just do cobra pose after you finish holding plank….it looks just like this:
But enough about me and our ab challenge for now and I say this because I think this quote from my Dalia Lama calendar really sums up what we need to do most to better our own lives:
“If you shift your focus from yourself to others, and think more about others’ well-being and welfare, it has an immediate liberating effect.”
Have a beautiful Saturday everyone!
