Last night’s episode of BL started with a cupcake challenge. I HATE when they are asked to eat unhealthy food as a challenge. 4 people decide to participate in the challenge, while we hear Lisa wisely say that cupcakes got her to where she is in the first place. Adam grabs the correct cupcake that wins him a prize probably better than any before. He wins a one pound advantage but is told that each week he holds on to it, grows a pound. If he keeps it 2 weeks, it becomes worth 2 pounds, and if he could stay in the game and keep it for 8 weeks, he would have an 8 pound advantage, etc. WOW! He does quickly realize that having this advantage could set him up to be eliminated, should he fall below the line.
Curtis Stone pays his annual visit and teaches the group how to make 100 calories cupcakes. I say who really NEEDS the cupcakes when you have 100 or so pounds to lose, but…I am not the producer 🙂
This week there would be 2 lines at the weigh in. Our usual yellow, and a red. The contestant with the least percentage of body fat lost would automatically go home. ONCE AGAIN at the girls fall short at the weigh in. Sophia ends up below the red line, and we say good-bye to another “girl.” 6 others fall below the yellow line, 4 of the girls and 2 of the guys. My boy Frado pulls off a 20 pound weight loss (and looks outstanding) and gets to save one of the contestants who fell below. He very fairly chooses Jessica as she had the best weight loss of those that fell below.
Unfortunately, Burgundy goes to Dr. H. because of the pain in her leg and after he diagnosis a stress fracture, places her in a boot and tells her she cannot compete in the challenge, which will automatically put her up for elimination against whomever loses the challenge. He made, what I thought, was an unusually cold comment towards her when she was, and rightfully so, upset that she couldn’t participate . This segment bothered me.
As if to make up for what bothered me, Bob invited the contestants who fell below the line to his house for a meal. A vegan meal. A friend of his made several really nice looking healthful, vegan dishes and I was happy that the producers allowed for this segment and allowed Bob to let the world know that he eats in this way. I would have enticed them with some dishes that were a little more “fun,” but again, I remind myself, I am just a viewer!
My very favorite part of last night’s episode, though…and perhaps the most classic line of all, was when my boy (and hopeful season 10 winner) Frado said, and I quote “Exercise is the purest form of pharmaceutical. YOU DON’T NEED THEM. Your body will create whatever it needs if you show it some love.” Apparently, once on many daily injections and pills, every day, Frado is now off of all of them. He said the intensity of the workout did something to him and obviously he is right, as the pounds are now melting off of him…20 lost this past week! GO FRADO. I appreciate your hard work and dedication and your wisdom. Exercise IS the purest form of pharmaceutical!
The final challenge consisted of unrolling a carpet, the length of a football field, and once unrolled, running back. The last person back would be up for elimination against poor Burgundy. Though I like the safety feature in a challenge like this, it was clearly easier for the guys than the girls! Elizabeth, with her asthma, had no shot at this one and though she finally finished the challenge, she did come in last. With Sophia already eliminated and now Burgundy and Elizabeth up for elimination, once again this season seems pretty stacked against the girls. Last week Erica and I talked about how this might be intentional, as we have had female winners for several seasons now. Erica’s thoughts were that the men lose quickly, but the woman have the staying power. Maybe if they eliminated a bunch of woman in the early weeks, a guy would have a better chance of winning. Who knows. I think its unfair!!
Most of the contestants wanted to save Elizabeth as they felt Burgundy would do better at home. Burgundy is eliminated and in the end we see both her and Sophia looking about 50 pounds lighter.
As we preview next week, we see those first week eliminated contestants coming back. One of them will be brought back on to the ranch. Though my DVR cut off, I also think the yellow line gets moved back down to where it used to be. All my money is on Frado. I liked him since week one, but last night his wise words sealed the deal for me.
As I end today’s entry, I hope you will think about Frado’s words and give YOUR body some love today and everyday.
