Though I admit that I fast forwarded a lot of Biggest Loser last night, I loved the episode. I loved it mostly because there was a lot of talk about food. Since it’s incredibly important that society understands that food is about 90% of the weight loss (and maintenance) game, it’s a good idea for them to have more episodes that address eating! By the way, an ounce of avocado (50 calories) ends up being about 1/3 of a medium sized one. I usually put about half an avocado in my daily salad and figure it for about 80 calories (give or take a few). I definitely answered incorrectly on a couple of those “trivia challenge” questions, reminding me there is ALWAYS more to learn! With Michael’s tie breaking answer to the final question, blue team wins the challenge. They are taken by limo to get pampered at the Four Seasons Hotel (and spa) while black team gets to clean the gym and kitchen! OUCH
As for the second challenge, cooking a healthy 3 course meal and Curtis Stone judging, I thought both teams did really well. Drea sure knows her way around the kitchen. That shrimp ceviche was practically no calories and looked rather gourmet! Both teams did a beautiful job on their desserts but in the end it was the Black team won and got 5 extra pounds at the weigh in. Though the spa trip was a nice win, Jillian makes a great point when she reminds her team they are there to lose weight and with the 5 pound advantage the under-dog black team actually has a good shot at winning the weigh in. But they don’t.
The blue team pulled off some incredible numbers on that scale. 6 people losing 56 pounds in one week is just crazy! Michael, who went home to visit his ailing grandma, kicked but with an 11 pound drop. He said he worked out twice a day which helped distract from the pain of knowing how sick his grandma is. He apparently knew what to eat at home, as well. Still a big boy at 397, he started this season in the 500 and has broken through the 5 number and now the 4 number, too! In 9 weeks! Do we not see how amazing the human body is??
In the end, Mama Sherri went home. She was obviously ready as when we see her in real time (2 months later) she is down to 138 pounds. Her goal for the finale is to be the same weight she was on her wedding day. If she doesn’t lose another pound, she is a winner in my book, with 80 pounds already shed from that very petite frame.
Next week they go home for a week…That make-over show must be coming sometime soon. I can’t wait!
I wish you a very happy St. Patty’s Day. Beware too much green beer and corned beef! Celebrate but do it wisely.

I absolutely loved BL last night. I enjoyed the challenges and the heart-wrenching conversations. I am getting so attached to these people!!! I cry with them, laugh with them and cheer for them. I was impressed that Michael was able to lose 11 pounds while he was at home. My heart just melts for him. He is such a teddy bear. This is the first time I am watching this series, so I am looking forward to the make-over show.
Thank you, Bonni, for a fantastic class last night. You are such a pro at what you do!!!

I really enjoyed BL last night too. I didn’t answer all the trivia correctly either – which is why I keep a pocket sized nutritional booklet in my car 😉
I also use http://www.calorieking.com when I have access to the internet – it’s a great site for looking up food values.
Sam & Koli made me cry last night. I was so pleased and proud of them both. Of all the family members, they seem to have the closest bond. I had a bad feeling about the weigh in. As soon as the Black Team won the 5 pound advantage, I told Brad they were going to lose the weigh in. Sherry looked great – she’s lost an additional 25 pounds at home on her own these past 2 months – Amazing!
On a personal note – I am having a better day today. Thanks to both Rita and Bonni for your love and support last night. Having the two of you in my life is truly a blessing.
If you’re local – There’s a great band playing the Coral Springs Alehouse tonight. Sweet 903 stars Todd Cohen on drums (anyone who goes to Tamarac Fitness will know Todd as soon as you see him) He is a very talented musician and the band plays great covers and is really a lot of fun to see and hear.
Happy St. Patricks Day – Kiss someone who’s Irish today 😉

i am glad you are having a better day. I did figure if we mixed things up a little last night it might be good for the head…glad it helped!
off to eat…more tomorrow…hope you had fun at the alehouse!
