After a long holiday weekend, we wake up and find that June has arrived. The first day of hurricane season for us in South Florida, still I find June a joyous month and welcome it with open arms. Happy June everyone.
I did manage to indulge in those bloody Mary’s, Killian’s Red beer chasers and a hysterical game of swimming pool badminton yesterday, with Mitch. I also got in a nice long, lazy nap, before firing up the grill. Along with Mitch’s steak, I made vegetable and tofu kabobs, and fruit kabobs loaded with fresh pineapple, peach and mango chunks. YUMMMMMY. I made sure to make enough of everything for leftovers, so lunch, today will be a wrap with the leftover eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms and tofu. Can’t wait!
Good luck to Carol and Brad as they welcome their newest grandchild into the world tomorrow morning. Let us know all about baby Gage when you meet him!
Rita and Ted, have a blast in the Big Apple. I know you will!!! Can’t wait to hear all the details.
Readers will notice a new article up on the site about osteoporosis. This article came to me via a reader, Michelle, who offers information on this way to prevalent disease, and also offers great tips on how to avoid it! Thanks, Michelle, for sharing the vital information. Thanks, Kyle, for getting it posted so quickly. I know you are rather busy with work and your own projects right now…and by the way, I MISS YOU!
Thanks also to my wonderful friends who hosted some fun get togethers this weekend. Nothing better than time spent with good friends.
Now, June 1. The holiday weekend is behind us. If you are like most people, you did a little more indulging this weekend than most. Today seems like a great day to return to some “normalcy,” with regard to eating and exercise. Need some extra motivation? Tonight Jillian Michael’s show, Losing It, premiers on NBC at 10pm eastern time. Though I will probably be up to see it after my evening classes at Tamarac Fitness Center, but just in case, I will set the DVR. Tomorrow I will let you know what I think and more importantly I will look forward to hearing what you think.

Happy June,
Really appreciated your creative grilling ideas-the veggie & tofu and fruit kabobs. Makes my Boca burger that I had on the grill too complacent, but enjoyed it anyways with soy provolone cheese. By the way, how do you season up those chunks of tofu? As we discussed at the gym on Sat after class, I have only tried the very convenient and very tasty Buffalo Garlic Tofu from Whole Foods. Would like to try my own creation with tofu that will taste decent enough 🙂

Becky–as for the kabobs, I seasoned the tofu AND veggies with olive oil, fresh lemon juice, grated garlic, ginger and ground pepper…mixed it all in a bowl and then added the veggies and tofu (all cut in chunks) to mix, then threaded onto skewers…
Now, as for the Whole Foods buffalo garlic tofu recipe, I will share it on THURSDAY when I like to try to post a vegan recipe…i have to dig it out from my cook book, but promise to post this Thursday morning. Again, its not AS good as theirs, but its a whole lot cheaper and you can have leftovers….see you at the gym 🙂
Carole–You make a great point about the health aspects of exercise — regardless of what we weigh (or what we would LIKE to weigh) exercising is CLEARLY the magic bullet for so many of the health issues that begin to effect us as we age! For you, (like many others) the bone density building is especially important! We gotta stay strong together—too much fun to still share!!!!

Thanks for posting the osteoporosis article. I love being reminded why exercise is important! I used to think it was for losing weight and if I didn’t see results I was discouraged.
But now that I think of exercise as being important for my flexibility, my mental health, my heart and my bones, I keep it up and feel no discouragement based on my weight change (or lack there of).
