While you are sitting on your butt, ponder this. Besides elevating blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol and weight, studies show that too much sitting is also tied to increases in breast and colon cancer. Studies linking 49,000 cases of breast cancer and 43,000 cases of colon cancer to prolonged sitting puts it right up there as a risk factor along with smoking and obesity.
I think I am going to buy all my loved ones who sit at desks and computers all day, TIMERS. Thinking that setting them for 30 minutes as a reminder to get up, stretch, and take a small walk for some water, to use the bathroom, etc., might be just what the doctor ordered.
Been more than a half-hour since YOU took your last break? Get on up off YOUR butt and repeat every half-hour or so. This goes for the couch potatoes, too.
