So proud of and happy for our friends who make Juicera… 100% organic, raw, no GMOs (and vegan) cold pressed juices now available at 12 Whole Foods stores in South Florida. Made with only the finest ingredients, and super tasty! Here’s what’s in our fridge right now…
It took a friend, in from Hawaii, to get me to a great little vegetarian Indian cafe in Sunrise, called Udupi. While I can’t say everything I ate from the buffet was 100% vegan, (no labels) when I asked the guy that worked there about the cream in a couple of the dishes, he assured me there was no dairy in them, and since they don’t use any meat, poultry, or fish, I was pretty confident that the foods I put on my plate were all plant-based. Coconut milk is used to make a lot of Indian dishes creamy, though you would never know that’s what it is. Everything was good and the price was right, but as an FYI they don’t take American Express. Thanks, Jill, for a lovely time playing “catch up on life,” and for turning me on to a new cafe. I promise that was thunder, South Florida style and NOT gun shots!!!
If you are on Facebook, I put up a 30 day ab challenge that starts on June 1. It starts out easy enough, but does get pretty challenging by the end of the month. If you are not on Facebook, here’s how it goes….
Feel free to join in! It starts on Sunday, so wrap your brain around it and let’s get busy…summer is HERE.
We have the first day of our “summer” storms out there today. It is much needed and sounds nice. It’s the first season in 12 that we haven’t had to worry about Blaze being frightened….of this, or the fireworks that always start way before the 4th of July, and last well past. Much as I miss the bigredguy, it is nice to not have him trying to climb (all 120 pounds of him) under things as I type. And it will be nice to see fireworks again! Oh how I have hated them…but I would NEVER have left Blaze home alone and scared so instead Mitch and I spent many a 4th, hiding in a room with the television and air conditioning blasting, trying to drown out the noise and bursts of light.
Being kind to animals always feels right to me. It’s just one of the reasons I love getting my nutrients from plants. Funny, my Dalai Lama calendar quote of the day says this:
“Great compassion is the root of altruistic action, the object of amazement to the world; there is no greater source of help and happiness.”
I am not even 100% sure of exactly what it means, but I am 1000% sure that much of my happiness comes from eating “compassionately.” Hope you can think about a plant-based meal today. It will do a lot more good than you can even imagine. Though many of us already have bought into animal protein being the link to many of the big diseases of affluence, many still haven’t. Yet just this morning I got an email from the Real Age docs, (western guys) which contained a link to a video showing the correlation between eating meat and getting type 2 diabetes. The numbers are astonishing, but this shouldn’t be news. For years people like John Robbins and the doctors behind Forks Over Knives/The China Study have been trying to get this message across to people.
If your health (physical, mental, emotional) isn’t all you wish it was, maybe it’s time to stop looking to health care professionals and start leaning into a change in your nutrition. If you have ANY questions about getting started just ask and I will try to help!
