What a great experience it was seeing Deepak Chopra live last night, with Rita. He shared lots of information about the brain, the body and the connection between the two. Long gone are the days we simply wondered if the brain could have so much power over our health and well-being. He shared many interesting statistics about what makes us happy and how we can change our own happiness set-point, and hence our health, thru quality (sans alcohol and sleeping pills) sleep, eating lots of colorful and tasty foods, daily exercise and meditation. As Chopra is first an endocrinologist and second, all the other wonderful things he is, he shined a lot of light on how what we think effects the hormones and chemicals we produce, and how that relates to our state of well-being. We did a guided meditation, and as in all his meditations, drew attention to different parts of our body, none more important than the heart.
And today, after all, is the day we celebrate the heart and love. Giving love is in many ways more essential to our happiness, than even receiving it. Get out there today and be a shining Valentine to all around you. It costs nothing to smile, to hold a door, to say I appreciate you, you are doing a great job, or I love you. You can change your own health and happiness TODAY by realizing we all share the same universe, the same air, the same energy and that we all want the same thing and that thing is not a thing at all. That thing is happiness and it can’t really be bought in a store, worn on your body or even driven (sorry, guys—that’s just temporary happiness). Happiness comes from things like giving, sharing, caring, experiencing and most of all from being grateful for all you do have.
So happy Valentine’s Day to my Valentine, Mitch, my kids and their Valentine’s and all of you. No better day that any to sign off with “my love,” and leave you with one final quote from Garth Stein because I think this sums up a lot….
“You should shine with all of your light all the time.”
― Garth Stein, The Art of Racing in the Rain
