Grateful Dead fans will recognize today’s blog title. The line before says “reach out your hand if your cup is empty”. It’s those empty cups that have me thinking and the ripple need not be still!
In fact, I have always been in awe of the ripple effect. You toss a tiny pebble in the water and watch the concentric circles getting larger and larger, without even trying. This was my hope and intention, with the announcement of F.F.I.T. –Fighting Food Insecurity Together.
I have had calls and texts to let me know what people are doing in Connecticut, NY, California and of course, right here in South Florida, to help raise money and food for the food insecure. I have received generous checks for Feeding America and have had an amazing outpouring of support and enthusiasm from family, friends, students and neighbors. I am energized by all of you and grateful, of course.
If you are local and would like me to pick up canned food donations (none too small) from your front door, just let me know. I am happy to pick them up, or you may drop them by my house. I am always home and happy to collect them and make deliveries to the food bank.
When I was a young adult, part of my work at the Muscular Dystrophy Association was writing fundraising material and celebrity pitches for the annual telethon. I never felt badly asking for money for someone else, and I definitely feel that same fire now. So while my blog takes a little detour, I say “sorry, NOT sorry”. If you have a choice of meals for dinner, tonight, you are certainly one of the lucky ones. May your cup be full again and again.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
