If you are looking for a way to reduce your animal consumption and find it overwhelming, why not start with meatless Monday?
The Meatless Monday campaign actually goes way back to WWI when consumers were encouraged to reduce usage of key staples to aid the war effort. Over the years it has morphed and grown and become an international campaign to encourage people to improve their own health, while improving the health of the planet and has been growing strongly since the the early 2000s.
Extensive research shows that if everyone eliminated meat just one day a week we could save 100 billion gallons of water and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1.2 million tons of carbon dioxide. On the health side, eating less animals and their byproducts would reduce health care costs and premature deaths, while lessening coronary artery disease, diabetes, stroke and certain cancers.
And since we are a society of animal lovers, I promise the feeling you get when you are NOT eating animals is an amazing one. In fact, I have come to believe that compassion grows (in leaps and bounds) as our nutrition leans into more plants and less animals, and let’s be real, we are in need of as much compassion as possible these days!
If you are looking for ideas, there are some good recipes right on this site or just ask google! Looking to learn more about plant-based eating, please watch The Game Changers or Forks Over Knives. The China Study is an excellent read. With the introduction of foods like the Impossible Burger and Beyond Meat, there are meatless options most everywhere, including most fast food joints (though obviously they are still fast food and NOT meant to be healthy).
I am happy to answer any questions you may have about Meatless Mondays, plant-based diets, or all things peace and fitness. Have a Marvelous and maybe even meatless, Monday. It’s a perfect day for something like a Chakra Salad! What’s good for the animals and the planet is especially good for YOU.
