My granddaughter is at an age where her imagination is really kicking in. Everything is a phone (of course) and everything is a drum (encouraged by all of us!) Why not look at fitness in the same way? You don’t need much room, you don’t need fancy equipment, (though that’s an option) you don’t need a gym, you just need a little creativity, and maybe some inspiration.
With winter coming upon us next week, I realize everyone is experiencing different weather. If you can get outside, the road works. Walk. Change up the pace. Change the route. Change the distance. If you pass a bench, you can do squats, incline push-ups, step ups and dips. You can use the back of the bench as a “ballet” bar. MAKE FITNESS FUN!! Play games. Maybe hit a park with a playground. Act like a kid. Play hoops. Hula hoop. Jump rope. Climb some hills. (Three Friends Park for my locals here in the “flat lands”). Clean up the streets. Apparently Mitch and I are surrounded by people that never learned not to litter. It’s OK. We get in a good workout.
Inside? Deep clean your home. Grab the deck of cards (they never fail!!!) Turn up some music and dance it out. Practice some kicks and punches. Find some free videos. From HIIT to SilverSneakers, from circuit training to yoga and from kickboxing to ballet, there is something for everyone out there on the world wide internet. If you are feeling bored or challenged ask me for some suggestions!!! Make fitness fun and if you can’t make it fun, make it multipurpose. Last week I started by cleaning my office/gym and ended up inspired by all the silly fitness props I had to move to vacuum, I challenged myself to use them all. It turned into a very complete workout and my office was nice and clean when I was all done.
On the F.F.I.T. front, thank you Sheree for locating a food bank that will take the NON canned food items we have and will continue to collect. We are spreading out here in Broward County. Sheree (or I or someone) will be making a drop off at the end of the week. This allows us to collect all the items way beyond canned goods. Boxed, jarred, bottled, bagged, all accepted now! Thank you thank you thank you.
If you are local and food insecure at this time, Sheree has located a place on University Drive and Peters Road in the shopping center connected to Publix that distributes free frood from 12-3 every Friday. Look for the Martial Arts sign. The organizer has 30 more locations so more info to come.
A surprise video call from the Clearwater and Vegas kids (and Summer) made night 5 of Chanukah special! As it is, it is so hard for us to all be together….the pandemic makes it soooo much harder for everyone far from their loved ones. We are thankful for video chat, jackboxtv games, really great kids, our beautiful Summer girl, and most importantly good health for all.
Last week I talked about the ripple effect and this week, I am seeing and hearing it! From east to west and north to south, I thank all of you for opening up your hearts. Unemployment benefits are about to run out for all that lost their jobs this year. Help will be needed even more as 20 turns to 21. As my dear friend Carole taught me many years ago, when you do good for others, it’s really pretty selfish–cause it makes YOU feel so damn good. And we all need more feeling good in our lives!
Thanks for stopping in. Time to get the fitness on! Peace and love to all.
