Saturday after class, Carol came back to the house with me and we did P9ox kenpo and ab ripper x. It was not only fun to do together, but my feelings about the entire P90x program has not changed even a little bit. I find it every bit as challenging, comprehensive and interesting as I did when Kyle first showed it to me in May of 09. I find that interesting because through the years I have purchased and or tried lots of other fitness videos. From Jane Fonda, to Tae Bo, the Method, Pilates and yoga videos galore and most recently, Physique 57, none entice me to hit play and start sweating, quite the way these do. I have to think this is mostly because the program offers so many different videos (14, I think). One can follow the day-by-day program (including a well planned out 90 day menu, including recipes) or, like I do, pick and choose videos to supplement your current workouts. I still say JUST doing ab ripper x 3 times a week will positively impact the strength of one’s core. Today, its legs and back again. This video includes several exercises (like pull-ups) that I just don’t do in my classes. IF YOU ARE STILL LOOKING FOR A HOME WORKOUT, I CANNOT RECOMMEND ANOTHER. I don’t want to put an age limit on this program as hopefully I will be able to do this for many years to come, but I do need to warn, this is pretty XTREME and may not be for every “body.”
Still another article in today’s Sun-Sentinel talks about the connection between lack of sleep and obesity. There has been much research done on this topic. To me, this is simply another case of a well oiled machine running properly. If anything is off, everything can be off. Mitch and I discussed this with filters yesterday. He recently replaced the filter for the pool pump, and needless to say, it’s now like a brand new pump. We talked about how that is the case for the vacuum filter, the air-conditioner, the clothes dryer, etc. In my anal, one-track mind, I couldn’t help but think its the same for the human body. If your kidneys or liver are not filtering correctly, how can your body run smoothly. Same with the sleep thing. Just like any machine, all the parts need to be functioning at their maximum capacity in order to keep things running smoothly. Consider that when you don’t keep your kidneys flushed with water, or stuff burden your liver with too many pills, alcohol or even too much fat. We ARE the combined sum of ALL our parts. Get your sleep and clean your filters! Look what happened to the poor tin man when he needed oil for his joints. This one dilemma rendered his body useless.
If you overloaded this past weekend, get up (now) and if possible add some fresh lemon juice to a gallon of water. Drink throughout the day. Load up on fresh vegetables and fruit and help move things along in your digestive system. Getting in some exercise (however you can) will also help stimulate your digestive system. Some whole grains will help scrub some cholesterol out of your arteries. The exercise will help raise your good cholesterol. Lay off the sugar and booze and you will be well on your way to cleaning up your machine!
Its time to get back to basics. Sleep enough. Eat clean. Drink lots of water. Keep moving your body! Think peaceful, yet productive thoughts and have a marvelous Monday.
