One of the questions I have most often been asked (and continue to be asked on a regular basis) as a fitness trainer is “What is THE best exercise I can do?” My answer is always the same….CROSS TRAINING is the best way to go….some of this and some of that…and here are just a couple of reasons why I remain committed to this answer. Mixing things up will help you stick to your exercise program. Switching between different types of exercise will allow you to work on different muscle groups. Changing things up will help build muscular and cardiovascular endurance as well as increase flexibility. Probably, most importantly, doing different things on different days will avoid over-training, over-straining and overuse injuries. So, though many of us have favorite forms of fitness, we must all be mindful to the balance our bodies and minds need. Too much of anything, even a good thing, can become counterproductive. Get way outside the box some days and just play hard with your friends, your kids or your dog(s). With fitness, as with all things in life, balance is everything.
