Let me start by saying that I have typed and deleted A LOT on this blog, today. Nothing seems important, in lieu of what is going on around us. Just going out in my own neighborhood this weekend, I had several incidents that remind me we are living in a different world. Anxiety (on all sides) is at an all time high. I think it is of benefit to each and every one of us to get our fitness in, practice gratitude and eat foods that nourish our cells, like fruits, veggies, and grains. I wont go on and on about a plant-based diet, but since it IS meatless Monday, I will say that science supports a “diet’ like this is way better for us physically AND emotionally. If you are a plant-based or vegan eater, you already know this from your own experience. If you question it, I am happy to talk to you privately.
Speaking plant-based, we ordered in dinner from a new local spot called hellenic republic (not a typo–I believe they use lower case letters). It surely doesn’t take the place of the old Greek spot in the walk, but Greek and middle eastern food are always a great spot for carnivores and herbivores to both be happy. Mitch ordered a wrap and I ordered the vegan board. I love to support places that give me options! Being so obsessed with charcuterie and all things that come on a board, I had to see how they would do this take out style. This is how it showed up and it was colorful and fun. It wasn’t the best Greek food or falafel we ever had, but for a local place it was perfect and plentiful and we would certainly eat it again.
Speaking of food….Saturday was a full day and LOTS AND LOTS of food was gathered for our drop off at Feeding South Florida, this Thursday. In fact, I do believe Sheree’s car will be packed to the max! I always worry about privacy issues when blogging, so I will just say thank you to all who continue to support this F.F.I.T project in all the ways you do — from donating gift cards to monthly commitments to shop to cleaning out kitchen pantries to sending me money to bargain shop and more, you are all making this happen!
I hope that my old school friend Marty of PMSI Promos, won’t mind me thanking him here for that huge delivery of tote and grocery bags and other assorted items that arrived on Saturday. They arrived while on a video happy hour call with other mutual school friends, so it was a great feeling of connection and very much appreciated. I keep saying, it takes a village and I am beyond grateful for my village.
I maintain on break from yard yoga and personal training until these Covid numbers start to come down a bit more. I am not a big fan of vaccines and have never taken a flu shot or a shingles vaccine and opted out of some for the kids when they were teens. I even let Kyle bypass living on campus back in his college years, as I didn’t want him to get the spinal meningitis shot, at the time. I WILL get this vaccine when it is available to me, because I feel it is for the greater good of our society. I do believe when enough people get it, we can finally get back to some much needed human interaction and touch.
Until then, I remain thankful for technology…and always for your “visit”. Stay safe, sane and if you can opt for some meatless meals today, that would be awesome. What’s good for the animals and the planet is also what’s good for YOU! Namaste.
