I actually stayed up to watch the whole Makeover Weight Loss show last night…because I napped during the day. Napping on Sunday afternoons, especially when it’s rainy and dreary outside, has become something I look forward to as a treat and a luxury. Something about the living room couch. In my constant quest for balance, having a real rest day seems to even things out! Anyway, this week’s weight loss subject was Nyla and she had a pretty tough year trying to lose about half her body weight. Starting at 435 pounds, she had an overwhelming challenge. Once again, abandonment by her dad (whom she never knew) seemed to be the underlying issue in her weight gain and her inability to dive into the transformation whole-heartedly. Chris Powell digs deep and in this case he located her dad’s family, only to find out her dad had committed suicide after losing his wife. On the up side, he reconnects Nyla with her dad’s side of the family, which she embraced. While Nyla is unable to meet her 3 month goals, and hence there is no talk of skin removal surgery, she does manage to manage to lose 157 pounds in her year of transformation and announces at her final weigh in that it was just the beginning of the journey. I loved that she said she learned the secret of weight loss is….there is no secret. Ain’t that the truth! And she still gets the $50,000 dollar Wal-Mart gift card…Oh how I hope she really uses it to eat healthfully…
On the subject of food, a great big “cheers” to Moes for making life so simple by simply offering tofu as one of their protein choices. While I am not at all an advocate of fast food, sometimes even I want to just grab a quick, easy meal and my new favorite is Moes, which now happens to be right in the food court on my corner. Hoping other food venues follow the lead. If you are offering chicken, beef or shrimp, tofu should be so easy to add to your menu.
While yesterday was a day devoted to all things peaceful, today is day devoted to all things fitness. Let’s get it started!
