Years ago Oprah suggested keeping a gratitude journal. I listened. I kept a journal, writing down at least 5 things, every day, that I was grateful for. This was at a time in my life when both my parents and my mother-in-law were struggling with steadily declining illnesses, from which they would never recover. My children were young, my schedule was hectic and some days it was hard to list 5 things! That, however, was when the practice was new. Over the years I have stopped journaling my gratitude and have, instead, made it a part of my daily routine. I often end my fitness classes, asking my students to rattle off a silent laundry list of things and people they are grateful for. Many have expressed how much they enjoy this moment of silent meditation.
Practice DOES make perfect! It is now easy for me, at any given moment, to find TOO MANY things for my laundry list. This morning I am especially grateful to have my sister and my niece for visiting with me for a few days of family bonding. How nice it was to do a peaceful Pilates/yoga session with them last night. Waking up this morning to a beautiful day that I can share with them is a wonderful gift. How lucky I am.
Taking just a moment a day to remember all you DO have will help you in ways you cannot imagine. We all have a moment and we all, even in the midst of these crazy times, have much to be grateful for. Thank you for visiting peaceandfitness.com and for all the wonderful feedback. I am certainly grateful!

OK, this article has inspired me to writing in my gratitude journal again. It’s been approximately a year since it’s seen a new entry. Thanks Bonz
