Yay.  I got to go to Sublime last night.  It was…simply Sublime!  I do believe Mitch, also really enjoyed the entire experience.  Atmosphere was nice.  Pretty waterfall to see if you sit in the right place.  The restaurant is very big, with lots of tables.  With a $50 groupon, coupon (that we paid $25 for) and the December special being 40% off wine, we were set to eat, drink and be merry.  We started off with a bottle of organic Chianti and it was EXCELLENT!  Smooth, mellow and very easy to drink, we did finish off the bottle over the course of the dinner.  Miso soup was the soup of the day and we shared a bowl and also shared a salad, which had beautiful presentation.  Both were very good.  While we waited for our crispy and spicy cauliflower appetizer (frito misto), the waitress put a couple of pieces of pesto polenta on the table.  It was interesting and got eaten…but the cauliflower was TO DIE FOR.  We actually ended up bringing an order home for tonight’s vegan feast, too.  It had an Asian flare and really is a must for anyone going.

I ordered the spinach ravioli and Mitch ordered the penne pasta with kalamata olives and capers.  Both dishes were yummy!  Mine used a rice (not soy) cheese.  I believe they use the rice cheese in all their “cheese” dishes.  I ordered a side of mac-n-cheese because I had to taste it.  We ended up bringing home a box of leftover pastas, and trust me, we will be eating them for lunch today.

For me, it was an experience I had been looking forward to for quite some time.  For Mitch, who enjoys meat and fish and does not eat tofu or most soy based foods, he was pleasantly surprised with how un-intimidating the menu and atmosphere was.  Our server was very pleasant and helpful and we topped the huge, delicious meal off with a piece of apple pie with currants and a side of vanilla soy ice-cream.  Mitch said the apple pie was like his grandma used to make.  I am not really a dessert girl as a rule, but enjoyed both the pie and the scoop of ice-cream.  It was, after all, a special occasion.  FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN A GOOD VEGAN MEAL, IF YOU LIVE LOCALLY YOU MUST TRY THIS PLACE.  IF YOU ARE A TOURIST IN THIS NECK OF THE WOODS, SAME FOR YOU!!  There is a definite bonus to knowing you are consuming this absolutely awesome food, that no animals had to suffer for.  Carole, next time you are here, we are definitely going.

My day was made even more special by the card I got from Kyle and Nicole, and coming home to a card and some cool books from Derek.  I might actually learn how to take full advantage of my iPod now.  How clever. Packages from friends in various parts of the country also helped make the day all that it was.  Being with old, long time friends, as we said good-bye to Gruber was definitely “big chillish.”

Tonight its cauliflower appetizer, Tofurky roasts, potatoes, salad, veggies and brownies.  The theme “the eve of Christmas eve.”  Can’t wait.  Life, with all its ups and downs, is…simply sublime.  Enjoy…
