I am a big believer in “slow and steady wins the race”. Yesterday, I saw a great chart showing what would happen if you put just 1 dollar away this week, 2 next, 3 the following, etc. By last week of the year, you would put away 52 dollars, but you would have well over 1,000 saved. (I forgot the exact numbers–but I am definitely doing this). Immediately, I realized how well this would work with many things…especially fitness! If you haven’t, let’s say, done push-ups ever, or in forever, just add one on your workout days this week, and 2 next and keep going. At the end of the year, you’ll be pushing out 52 of them and have built some beautiful upper body strength and definition! You could apply this theory to so many things. If you know someone completely sedentary and they are overwhelmed with the thought of how they ever could incorporate an hour (or even half of an hour) to moving, suggest they walk (or march in place) for 1 minute a day, for the first week and add a minute each week. You know the math.
Here in my home gym, I am going slow and steady with my hoop dancing and in just a few days, I can hoop on my waist, on my hips and even move around a bit, though it clearly doesn’t resemble dancing yet…but slow and steady, I am positive by week 52, I will have come a long way!
And right here at peaceandfitness.com, I am happy to say that yesterday I had the most visitors to date!
Sometimes, when we bite off more than we can chew, we become burned out and simply can’t sustain week in and week out. Like the tortoise and the hare, slow and steady always wins the race. Keep that in mind as you work on your goals for 2013 and have an awesome weekend, everyone….
and for that extra motivation, I am excited beyond words to remind you that Biggest Loser returns (finally!) tomorrow night and Jillian is back. Nothing slow about her or that show, but somehow at the end of the season, they are all winners…and great big losers, too! Can’t wait….
