As some of you already know, a few years ago I slipped in mud and did a major job on my left hamstring. I actually heard the tear as my body did a full split. Luckily, I was able to rehabilitate it on my own, and after a couple of months I was able to do most everything with it. From paying attention to lots of gentle stretching on that side, I actually have more flexibility in that leg, than the other. Recently I have been revisiting some equipment in the gym, and have noticed that when I do hamstring curls, that leg does not have nearly the strength as my right leg. Three days later, I am still feeling the soreness in the stronger leg and next to none in the apparently weaker one. Certainly tells me that my right leg was doing most of the work to curl the weights.
Moral of the story. Cross training. I pretty much figured between aerobics, weight lifting, Pilates, yoga, walking, running, swimming, I had everything covered. Silly me. As soon as you do something, you impact different muscle fibers and everything is new again. While we may very well be on a fitness program that is working just fine for us, never underestimate how much small changes can make big differences. This certainly doesn’t just apply to our workouts…it seems to apply to most all aspects of our lives.
Have a sensational Saturday. Consider just one small change in your life that may just make all the difference in the world.
