While watching First Lady, Michelle Obama, on the Dr. Oz show this week, I was thrilled to learn that FINALLY…after 25 years, the public school physical education test has finally been overhauled. Probably almost all of us can remember the dread and fear we felt having to run the mile, or do a certain amount of push-ups to pass the test that was in place since the days the dinosaurs roamed the earth. Now, as the First Lady explained, the test wont include competition against anyone else, or a number. The test will be geared to one’s own fitness level and test for things like proper form. There was also a segment showing revised school lunches, with 3 kids testing the options (such as whole grain pizza and baked sweet potato fries) with great approval. Mrs. Obama also showed her jump rope routine, while and always enthusiastic Dr. Oz attempted to mimic her fancy moves. She jumped like she works out in a boxing ring daily, though she made sure to let us all know that she does a healthy mix of cardio, strength training and flexibility training. She also said her and her girls do a lot of dancing and showed us a little of the “Dougie.”
When asked by the good doctor if this administration will be remembered for the impact they have made on HEALTH, she basically said that would be something to be proud of. I couldn’t agree more. While way too many issues are beyond anyone’s control, health is something we can all take better control of….and really, without your health, what else even matters?
when the schools discontinued PE they did the kids a great injustice.

I Love Michelle Obama. I don’t know what will happen come November with the election, but I do believe that her shoes will be nearly impossible to fill.
