The following meditation is an adaptation of a technique by Sylvia Browne from her book Conversations with the Other Side. While I have not read the book, it was lent to me by one of my students, Martha, so that I could learn this particular meditation and share it…I admit to condensing it a bit and taking the liberty of leaving out the religious images so that we are ALL on the same page.
The Laboratory Technique
“The laboratory is a place that you construct in your mind, where you can go to receive healing, counseling, or help with any problem. You create the laboratory with your mind. In your mind’s eye, build a rectangular room. The far wall will be an open space where you can have a nice view of a water scene, which will add power to the healing. The other three walls are light green – this is also to signify healing. In the center of the room, imagine a table large enough for you to lie on. Give the table a little character–adding carvings or other types of ornamentation. The more detail you give the room, the stronger is existence will be. Use any materials that please you. The room shouldn’t be too stark, so place a few thing around–chairs, artwork, and other items that you find familiar and comfortable. Now, imagine a stained-glass window in the open wall. This window can be designed as you like, but the colors must be bright with large blocks or bands of blue, purple, gold and green.
Once you have constructed the Lab, mentally walk into it. The best time to do this is at night, as you are going to sleep. But please, try to complete the meditation before falling asleep.” (I say, good luck to you…I find the whole thing to be a great sleep inducer, which many of us crave and need) When you enter the Lab, stand in front of the glass window and allow each of the color beams to penetrate your mind and body. The color blue furnishes tranquility to the soul and spirit; the color purple provides for increased spirituality and awareness; the color gold offers heightened dignity and intellect; and the color green provides healing. Allow these brilliant colors to encompass you in warmth and happiness. Try to visualize each of the colors as they enter you and cleanse your soul. Let a white light surround you making you well. Feel yourself becoming whole, with a new sensation of stability, power and control.
Now, go to the table and lie down, still wrapped in the white light. Invite master teachers and doctors to work on a particular area of your body. You must specify the area of concern and target only one problem area during each session. Concurrently, you can ask to be relieved of emotional and mental pressures. Surrender completely to their hands. Once you have made it to the table, you can fall asleep and this is OK because the room has already been created, you have asked for help and the table itself has an anesthetic quality.
Use the lab for any problems in your life. You may even bring a loved one there. First, create the setting, then mentally put them in the white light, visualize them on the table and ask for the teachers to help with their problem.”
Sylvia Browne promises that the Laboratory technique is one of the most miraculous meditations you will ever use. She says there is NO limit to what YOU can do in YOUR lab. Check it out and let me know how you do. I think it’s just as effective as a tool to get to sleep as a healer and…well…we heal when we sleep, so it’s all good!
