Dr. Mahmet Oz and his best friend and partner, Dr. Mike Roizen, did it again! This time they managed to convert a 265 pound cowboy, into a vegan for 28 days, in an effort to help him alter his eating disorder (food addiction) and get on the road to good health. Additionally, cowboy Rocco Wachman was also encouraged to get in his 10,000 steps a day, which he easily achieved by giving up riding his ATV during this 28 day plan.
Giving up all animal products and replacing burgers with hummus sandwiched between 2 slices of tomato, could not possibly be easy, but thanks to the good doctors’ support, this is one of the changes Wachman made. He consumed 7 small meals (the size of his palm) a day and ate every several hours. He admits the first 7 days were the hardest, but did serve to break his addiction to sugar.
At the onset of the 28 days, Rocco weighed in at 265 pounds, his waist measured 49″ and his blood sugar was 172, which made him a diabetic. At the end of the 4 weeks, he lost 30 pounds of fat, 6 inches off his waist and perhaps most importantly lowered his blood sugar reading to 99, taking him out of the diabetic range. He admits that he is not ready to go back to eating animal products yet, though Dr. Roizen claims it is safe to start introducing meat back in to the body, a few ounces at a time, a few times a week.
To learn more about Rocco’s journey to the land of oz and good health, tune into the Dr. Oz show this Friday night and again the following Monday morning.
For another great inspiration to lean into the vegan lifestyle for just 21 days, pick up a copy of the book Quantum Wellness by Kathy Freston. It certainly made a great impact on me! Let me know what you think.

i really enjoyed her book and did try the vegan cleanse for 21 days, which ended up being about 7 months….i really felt very HAPPY with my eating but i was having a hard time with my weight so i reintroduced some animal protein, but am considering trying the cleanse again—i love the way she uses the expression “lean into”….it made me feel that any efforts toward veganism were worthwhile….and there is a recipe for sheppards pie in there that has become a favorite on feast night—actually going to make it this week….thanks for checking in!!!

I also watched in amazement at the transformation of the 265 pound cowboy into a vegan. I was riveted to the screen as he passed up his favorite foods and substituted Dr. Oz’s healthy choices. Of course, if I had Dr. Oz coaching me, I would do just about anything to please him. I adore him and listen with eager ears to all his “pearls of wisdom.” Hopefully this cowboy will be able to sustain his new lifestyle and he will not be tempted to fall off the wagon. I would love to see a follow-up show in 6 months!

The positive results the cowboy achieved, in just 30 days, were spectacular! I, too, wonder what will happen when Rocco starts re-introducing animal products. I bet the good doctors follow him up and help him to stay on track and who knows, maybe we WILL see a follow-up.
Congrats to you and Ted on your anniversary. Have a happy….celebrate!
