We all, from time to time, find ourselves in a creative SLUMP. Next time it happens to you, try excusing yourself from your computer (or wherever it is you create) and go take a hike. Well, it doesn’t have to be a hike as a simple walk will suffice.
According to a study published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory and Cognition, people generate more creative ideas when they walk then when they sit. In this study 176 people were given various verbal tests, first while sitting and then while walking on a treadmill. Researchers found 81% of the participants improved their creative output when walking.
Just one more reason to opt for daily exercise. Just my guess, but I am pretty sure other forms of movement will elicit the same effects because the best way to a healthy mind, is via a healthy body!
