Today begins the open enrollment period for health insurance plans. Remember to ask about the FITNESS CLUB benefits in any plans you are considering. If you are 65 or over and eligible for the medicare advantage, ask about SilverSneakers! The program looks to be busier this coming year, than ever before. If you are already a member look for the program to open up in more facilities at the start of 2010. If you are younger than 65 ask about any fitness benefits you may be eligible for. Let me know what you learn, as I am curious.
I found a couple of great new food products recently. For the vegans, check your frozen food isle for GARDEIN products. A great alternative to soy, these already prepared foods are made from a vegetable protein and were introduced to us recently on the Oprah show. Thank you chef Tal Ronnen for sharing your find. Lookfor his book, The Conscious Cook, now available. Also happened to notice that Isa Chandra Moskowitz has a new baking book, Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar. Either of these would make a great holiday gift for those that live the vegan lifestyle.
For those who can’t live without their bread but are watching calories and white carbs, checkout Flatout Artisan Flatbreads. With only 100 calories, 1 gram of sugar and 8 grams of fiber in each bread, these are a great find! Each one is designed to be folded in half, so the 100 calories covers both sides of the sandwich. What a great deal for calorie counters!
Locally, the Parkland Farmer’s Market is going on this morning. Get there early for the hydroponic salad greens. If the guacamole vendor is there this morning, you’ll want to try that and probably bring home at least one container to enjoy during this afternoon’s Dolphin game. Keep in mind that though it has a good deal of calories, avocados are a fantastic source of those all important monounsaturated fatty acids (or MUFAS).
If you are very local, remember that Fusion Fitness and Yoga will be opening it’s doors this week. If you are interested in taking a look around or trying a new class, call Debbie at 954-345-yoga. Tell her Bonni sent you. I’ll be there Thursday doing a complimentary Core class @ 10:15 and a Cardio Lite class @ 11:30. Located at 10000 Sample Road, come out and surprise me or email me for directions. These will be small classes in a new, clean, intimate and personal setting. If you just want to take a look around and participate in our Food for Fitness drive, look for that on Saturday the 21st from 12:30-2:30. More about that, later in the week.
Wherever you are today, make sure to put some peaceandfitness into your day!
