I have the greatest walking partner in the world. He never disappoints me, never says he is too tired, too hot, too hungry, too stressed or too lazy. In fact, on the days I don’t want to walk, he stalks me and wears me down until I give in. Since I play the part of TRAINER in my work life, it’s refreshing to have another push me on the days I need a push. We have been walking together, almost daily, for about 8 years. There was a period of time that we were running most days, but we have given up the running since he injured his ACL a couple of years ago. Recently, when I tore my hamstring, I had to take a little time off, but now we are right back in our morning groove. He is great company and being a large male, I feel well protected when we are out together. We pick different directions to walk in and since I am pretty easy going, I usually let him decide which way he wants to go. Our favorite day is Sunday, when my husband joins us for our daily routine.
So this morning I want to thank my big, red, 100plus pound, most special friend, Blaze. Part Golden Retriever, part Labrador and part Rhodesian Ridgeback, he is ALL soul. If you are looking for a walking partner, I highly recommend a dog! They will be faithful and loyal and provide you the companionship to get out there and cover some distance. Make sure to walk at appropriate times of day so that it is not too hot or too cold for your canine buddy. Provide them ample hydration and a reward for a job well done.
Spending quality walking time with Blaze is the single best way I know to attain both peace and fitness!
