Spring is such a great time to be reborn, to renew and to reconnect. In spring everything is possible. Days grow long and sunlight is abundant. Flowers bloom where there once were none. In fact, colors happen everywhere. What a great time to get outside and get moving surrounded by all that Mother Nature gifts us with.
Monday, after my morning of teaching and training, I was in need of being outside so I went for a little walk/jog around the neighborhood. There is a home just about a half-mile away that has beautiful orchids growing on the trees and Mitch and I often comment to one another about how pretty the property is kept. During my Monday outing I finally, after many years, saw a woman raking the leaves and stopped to tell her how we admire her home and yard. As soon as we looked at one another we realized we already knew each other…a recently retired teacher from the elementary school Derek and Kyle went to. Just by coincidence she told me that she was having lunch with 20 of the other retired teachers, today, right by my house. I am so excited that I will have the chance to stop in and say hello and see some of them and let them know what positive impact they had on the boys…especially one who had Derek for 2 years and Kyle for 1. I have always wanted this very opportunity!!!
If you don’t spend time outside, you miss a bounty of opportunities to connect. Often, that connection is with your own soul, and often that’s exactly the connection we need! I have made a commitment to get outside and walk or jog 6 days a week. While some may think I already get more than enough exercise, this is about way more than that.
Wherever you are, spring is, too. Give thought to dusting off some sneakers that haven’t seen the outdoors since before the winter and get yourself a good dose of exercise, Vitamin D and reconnection. It will do your body, your mind and your spirit a whole lot of great and you might just find yourself singing…I’m walking on sunshine…and ooooo it feels good!
