A while back I posted the 4 questions that I often use as part of a guided meditation, and ask myself very regularly. Who am I? What do I want?
What is my purpose? and What makes me happy? Some of you commented on how hard these questions really are. Since this is just an exercise in learning about yourself, I urge you to remember there are no right or wrong answers. Just keep asking and see what images, names, words, thoughts flow through your mind without effort. The more you ask the questions, the more you will learn about yourself.
I am on a constant journey to better know who I am. Sure, the beach and seashells make me happy, as does being with my family. These are gifts I treasure. What makes me happy on a pretty daily basis, is helping others find their own way to peace and fitness. Just as I believe animals need to get daily exercise to behave well and be content, so do we! As a kid I hated sports. Hated all sports. They were either too aggressive, too competitive or just too scary.
When I started working at Elaine Powers 40 years ago, I liked the cool uniforms and the fact that I wasn’t working in an office. Soon, I realized I loved the actual workouts and one thing led to another. Now, 40 years later, there are still too many fitness choices each and every day. I love sharing these options with others and especially love when someone who is a self proclaimed hater of exercise, finds something they actually can’t wait to do again. This was the case this week, when someone I have helped get back into the fitness groove, told me she found 2 different classes at the local aquatic center that she really enjoys! This makes me happy! She has found her wings, and now she can fly. Or swim.
Here in South Florida, we have access to lots of swimming pools. I have completely tweaked my own fitness, and am swimming most every morning. It feels amazing and not only do I get my fitness in, but I always find peace in the quiet of the underwater. It is a total body and mind experience. I am giving my body a rest from all the walking and running and lifting it did in 2020 and early 21, reserving most of my walking for the days we set out to clean the trash off the streets. That is definitely on my agenda, today. I would love to hear what is on yours!
If you have called me about classes, fitness help, etc., and I haven’t gotten back to you yet, I promise I will. We came home from Vegas with a lot on our agenda. While I wasn’t excited to get the vaccine, being fully vaccinated has opened the world back up to us, once again. We even sat at the bar at Big Bear on Monday and had a toast to Mitch on his 64th. It felt so good!
With a garage full of hundreds of pounds of food donations, Sheree and I will be loading up her car and delivering the goods tomorrow. Thank you for your part in the F.F.I.T. project. Clearly one of my current purposes is this. Because of YOU, people can go to bed with full bellies. This makes me extremely happy!
Ask the questions. Listen for the answers. I promise they will come to you. Perhaps, finding our purposes in this thing we call life, is ultimately how we find our happiness.
Wishing you purpose and most importantly, happiness.
