You are not your past. That is the last line I read out of a book this morning, before sitting down to blog. How often we are judged by what we have done in the past. Sort of makes sense. Dr. Phil would say “the best predictor of future behavior, is past behavior, and again, that makes some good sense.
But in reality, you are not your past. The past is gone. We have the ability to wake up this day, December 14, 2009 and start on the journey of who, where and how we want to be. This goes for all things, but as it relates to health, wellness, addiction, weight control and exercise, YOU hold the key to becoming a new you.
Each and every time I have consultations with people who are struggling with their weight, we discuss what they have (and have not) been doing thus far. For once you own those things, you are forced to deal with them. People tell me they have never been a water drinker, or good at sticking to an exercise program. They have always had a weight problem, or a slow metabolism. I hear how they have to have lunch out because of their job schedules, or how they have to eat certain dinner foods because they are eating with their families.
STOP! It doesn’t matter what you have or have not done until this moment. YOU ARE NOT YOUR PAST. Today, as they say, is the present, YOUR present. Today is the day you look in the mirror and decide what you want for YOU.
