One place I am always on a quest for, is a restaurant that serves traditional food, yet offers vegan options. It would seem so easy for all dining establishments to offer at least one or two, but this is not the case. While I can always find something to eat, on most every menu, it irks me no end to have no choice but to order something like a chicken salad and then ask them to hold the chicken, the cheese, the bacon, the creamy dressing, etc. My two local favorite places that don’t force me to do this are Big Bear Brewery, where they make THE best veggie burger of any I have ever tasted (and I have tasted a lot!) and Falafel Bistro, where there are as many choices for an herbivore as there are for a carnivore! They also happen to have some of the best food under the sun, if you want to spend some money doing so.
Last week, Erica and Jeff called us on their way home from a place they had just eaten, called Your Pie. They were super excited to let us know that we could all eat together, there, as they not only offer vegan options, but gluten free (Jeff’s thing) as well. We were excited to go with them this past Saturday to try it out, and it was a hit! Diners can choose between classic, whole wheat or gluten free dough, many different sauces, and several types of cheeses, including all the traditional favs, as well as a vegan option. The best part was that you can put as many veggies on your pizza as you like, at no additional cost. There were also many meats to choose from at 1 dollar a piece. Each one of our pies looked entirely different from one another’s and everyone was very happy. The 7″ personal pies come out of the oven in about 4 minutes and to make things even better, they had 2 for ones on beer and wine at the time we were there (6:30 Saturday night). Mitch and I each had our own pies, and I ordered red wine (they filled the glass to the rim—and then refilled to the rim) and Mitch tried 2 different craft beers each served in the tall beer glasses that we love. Our bill for both pizzas and the drinks was under $30.00. Seriously.
The Your Pie that we ate at is located in Lighthouse Point at 3650 North Federal Highway, at the corner of Sample Road, but there are about a dozen of them from South Florida to Georgia, so get on Google and find one near you. My guess is they will soon be everywhere!
Thanks to Erica and Jeff for introducing us to this place…and for introducing us to tossing pinecones in the fire pit. Mitch and I took a walk through our corner park yesterday morning and collected lots of them to put into the beautiful fire we made last night. Thanks, also, to Lesley and Richard for gifting me with Richard’s ticket to Barry Manilow, Friday night. Lesley was the perfect date and we had a blast singing and dancing to the hits we grew up on. I am still singing and dancing this morning. Finally, a huge congrats to the Broncos and Seahawks as they make their way to the 2014 SuperBowl.
Happy Monday and happy birthday, Dr. King. Let’s all get out there and turn some passive into active. Thanks for stopping in!
